No hidden airshed agendas here

Dear editor,

Don Maroc is right! “ As long as [Crofton] mill is working for less pollution, [let’s] work with it”. I live in Crofton. I am part of the Crofton Airshed Citizens’ Group (CACG) Don sneered at in his column. I want to work with the mill, and anyone else who is working for less pollution.
The majority of CACG members live in Crofton and other areas of the Cowichan Valley. We come from diverse backgrounds and have diverse interests. We are certainly not “led” by “folks from Saltspring and Cortes Islands”, although some “folks” from those areas have joined us. They are also affected by mill fallout. We are engaged in researching the effects of contaminants coming from the mill, and in attempting to dialogue with mill and government officials on ways and means of cutting the pollution so that the health of people living in the airshed area, and of the mill workers themselves, is not adversely affected. There is no conspiracy here, Don, except the fantasy in your mind. Why not come to one of our meetings and become informed about what we are doing, instead of writing columns based on misinformation?
