The Canadian Environmental Law Association has identified the top pollution emitters in B.C., based on 2003 reports submitted by companies to Environment Canada.
Alcan's Kitimat Works aluminum smelter tops what the group calls the "dirty dozen" air polluters, with more than 52 million kg. of emissions during the year. That makes it the 17th largest polluter in Canada.
